I'm 1 for 2 in this year's Triple Crown. My Kentucky Derby pick, Syndney's Candy finished near the back of the pack. My guy Lookin At Lucky came through though, defeating the ridiculously named Super Saver. My official pick for the Belmont Stakes is Ice Box!

Early Times Bottle Wrap Contest FILED UNDER: Art 36 comments leave a comment

I just learned, courtesy of Facebook, that Early Times is running an art contest for their 2011 commemorative Kentucky Derby Mint Julep Bottle. The deadline for the contest is June 30th and the grand prize is $5,000 plus a trip to the Kentucky Derby. I have every intention of entering, just wish I had known about it earlier so I could have more time to work on it.

Horsepulling is a competition dating back to the early 1900s. Farmer's held horsepulls to prove whose horses were the strongest. During a compeititon a pair of horses are hitched to a weighted sled and are asked to pull the weight a very short distance. The team that can pull the heaviest load wins.

I recently learned about a fun equestrian sport I have previously never heard of called Extreme Cowboy Racing. It's essentially an obstacle course on horseback, but much more intense then any trail class. Some of the obstacles included in these extreme races are; archery from horseback, drag a log, rope a cow, jump a small fence, cross a small body of water and many more.
