Rachel Alexandra the Thoroughbred
What do I love most about Rachel Alexandra? I don't know what to pick first. I guess I'll start with the fact we both have the same middle name "Alexandra". I pick my racehorses based on their names, and Rachel Alexandra was always my pick for any race she was in. Above that silly little reason, she beat all the boys in the 2009 Preakness. I fully believe had she ran in the Derby and Belmont, we may have had our first triple crown winner since Affirmed. Miss Rachel has a very distinctive face marking, it almost looks like an upside down exclamation point.

Zenyatta the Thoroughbred
As of writing this Zenyatta is undefeated in her sport. She is 14 firsts for 14 starts. One of the things I like about her, is she didn't have her first start until she was 3. I think that Thoroughbred horses are put into work too soon for their bodies and brains. Zenyatta is undeniably the cream of the crop but I'm certain she benefited from waiting until 3 for her first start when most racing Thoroughbreds start at 2.

Eight Belles the Thoroughbred
Oh, Eight Belles. Those damn greys are heartbreakers. This daughter of Unbridled Song was my pick to win the 2008 Kentucky Derby. Her second place finish was overshadowed by her tragic, traumatic break of both front legs. She was euthanized on the track. Eight Belles had lifetime earnings of $700k.
