All Gussied Up the Saddlebred

"Gus" is a sweet Chestnut Gelding who shows in Hunter and Jumping. Unlike many Hunter Under Saddle horses, Gus keeps his mane long for the show ring (he is a Saddlebred after-all.) I love his running french braid. Gus has an elegant Saddlebred neck, long flashy legs and a balanced body. One of the reason's I picked him to feature is he reminds me of my own mare and I love that he's winning Championships and Reserves in Hunter even though he isn't the typical breed most people think of when they picture a Hunter horse.

That's right, Saddlebreds can do more than just Saddleseat. This is Bravo, an American Saddlebred Gelding that does dressage and "loves to jump".

"Clint" was originally an accomplished Saddleseat competitor. He showed and won in 5-Gaited and Fine Harness divisions. In 2005 he was the USEF 5-Gaited Amateur Regional Reserve Champion. At the age of eight, Clint made a career change to Combined Driving, where wouldn't you know it, he excelled.

This Color of Fame son is an extremely loud pinto American Saddlebred. Those speckles on his side are the telltale "pawprints" of a horse homozygous for Tobiano. "Ernie" has foals that are winning in categories including Halter and Western Pleasure.

I'm about to die over how gorgeous this horse is. Max is a Sporthorse Stallion registered with the American Warmblood Society and the Half-Saddlebred Registry of America. In his owner's words, "Max has been showing and winning in the 3'6"-4' jumpers, Training level eventing, as well as dressage. He is exhibiting exceptional work ethic, ridability and potential under saddle and is progressing toward Grand Prix work".

American Saddlebreds, National Show Horses and Half-Saddlebreds are close to my heart, because my own horse is Half-Saddlebred. Famous Echo SCA, has the most elegant swan-like neck and a proudly flagged tail that makes this Saddlebred stud such a great example of this breed. His markings are very striking too. Famouse Echo isn't just a pretty colored horse, he has nice confirmation underneath his tri-color Tobiano coat.

The Knight’s Reflection the Saddlebred

Saddlebreds are so fancy, take this black Saddlebred Stallion, The Knight's Reflection for example. He's all alertness and perked ears. Saddlebreds always look a little over-caffeinated to me. They tend to be very aware of their surroundings. It makes for great photographs and interesting hand walks past the new roping dummy... Anyways, this guy has a couple of Futurity Championships to his name.
