Hansen is a hopeful entrant to the 2012 Kentucky Derby. He's won one Grade I Stakes, the Breeder's Cup Juvenile, and the Grade II Toyota Blue Grass. I feature him today because he's such a pretty light grey horse and my underdog pick for the Derby. Plus he makes me think of the song "Mmmbop". Good luck Hansen!

Smarty Party the Thoroughbred
|
Smarty Party looks a lot like her sire, Smarty Jones the 2004 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner. She recently made her track debut coming in a respectable second place at Colonial Downs. Time will tell if Ms. Smarty Party will reach the levels of racing success that her sire achieved.

Ritzy Jones the Thoroughbred

These Smarty Jones babies have the best names! This is Ritzy Jones, a son of Smarty Jones. I have a weakness for the grey Thoroughbreds, I just love them. This slate grey colt looks really sharp in white tack and the blue racing silks of Someday Farm. Ritzy Jones won easily in the slop at Philly Park, breaking his maiden in March of 2009.

Smart Sugar the Thoroughbred

Meet 2006 Smarty Jones filly, Smart Sugar (super cute name!) out of Ashraaf by Deputy Minister. Smart Sugar broke her maiden at Golden Gate Fields and has come in third at a Pleasanton CA race and third in her debut race at Golden Gate Fields. I don't know much else about this girl, but I am excited to see a Smarty Jones baby out there racing, especially such a cute one.

Lookin at Lucky the Thoroughbred
|
Lookin at Lucky's name I think is jinxing him; he's not had much in the way of luck lately. His bad ride in the sloppy Derby ended with Lucky crossing the finish line in 6th. In his trip in the Santa Anita Derby the poor guy was bumped, jostled and virtually ridden into the fence resulting in L@L coming in third. Hopefully Lookin's Luck with change this Saturday in time for the Preakness Stakes.I would love it if Super Saver's bid for the Triple Crown was brought to an early end by Lucky. While I'd love a Triple Crown winner as much as the next guy, I can't stand the name Super Saver. So good Luck Lucky, you're my pick for the Preakness.
