Horsepulling

Horsepulling is a competition dating back to the early 1900s. Farmer's held horsepulls to prove whose horses were the strongest. During a compeititon a pair of horses are hitched to a weighted sled and are asked to pull the weight a very short distance. The team that can pull the heaviest load wins.

Extreme Cowboy Racing

I recently learned about a fun equestrian sport I have previously never heard of called Extreme Cowboy Racing. It's essentially an obstacle course on horseback, but much more intense then any trail class. Some of the obstacles included in these extreme races are; archery from horseback, drag a log, rope a cow, jump a small fence, cross a small body of water and many more.

Cavalia is an equestrian production created and directed by Normand Latourelle, one of the original founders of Cirque du Soleil. The show features over 60 horses of various breeds; Lusitanos, Canadian Horses, American Quarter Horses, Paint horses, Belgians, Percherons, Arabians, and Appaloosas. The show has traveled to Atlanta Georgia, with performances running through January 3rd 2010.

Eclypse the Zorse

This pinto pony/zebra cross has very striking markings. Eclypse lives in a German Safaripark and has become a major attraction due to his/her (gender is unclear) unusual appearance.

Riding Zebra

I've always thought it would be interesting to train a Zebra to ride. Donkeys, wild horses and even ostriches can be trained to ride, why not a Zebra? In preparation for today's article I scoured the web for photos of Zebras undersaddle. Surprisingly, I found more antique photographs, then modern ones of Zebras carrying riders.
