Sidesaddle

Sidesaddle developed as a way for women to ride their own horses, while maintaining a modest dress (riding astride in a long flowing skirt, probably not the most practical thing in the world) and because, you know, classy, chaste ladies keep their legs together.

Horsepulling

Horsepulling is a competition dating back to the early 1900s. Farmer's held horsepulls to prove whose horses were the strongest. During a compeititon a pair of horses are hitched to a weighted sled and are asked to pull the weight a very short distance. The team that can pull the heaviest load wins.

Extreme Cowboy Racing

I recently learned about a fun equestrian sport I have previously never heard of called Extreme Cowboy Racing. It's essentially an obstacle course on horseback, but much more intense then any trail class. Some of the obstacles included in these extreme races are; archery from horseback, drag a log, rope a cow, jump a small fence, cross a small body of water and many more.

Puissance Jumping

It's nuts how high top level riders and horses can jump in a Puissance competition. The world record for Puissance is held by German rider Franke Sloothaak, who in 1991 jumped 7ft 10 inches on his horse Leonardo.
